A new batch of improvements has arrived in your BBM! Hot on the heels of the last release comes another bunch of updates that limit spam invites, further refine the BBM user interface, give you quicker access to your favorite stickers and lots more, including several new services in the Discover menu.
Experience Improvements: Less Spam, Recent Stickers, Easy Feedback
We’ve improved our spam control to further reduce the number of unwanted invites people receive.
A new “recent” tab gives you faster access to your most recently used stickers in chats. (See screenshot.) This tab—identified by a clock icon—is the new default screen for stickers, displaying the ones you’ve used most recently, so you don’t have to sort through all your sticker packs to find the ones you like best.
And in support, now you can send a report to BBM with your description and screenshots attached, making it easier and faster to provide us with feedback.
Interface Improvements: New Badge, Tabs, Icons and More
Never miss a message again! We’ve added a badge to your BBM icon that displays the number of unread messages you have waiting for you. This same badge also appears in your Chats tab.
For Android users, you’ll notice a few more updates to your lower navigation bar. We’ve combined your personal and group messages under the Chats tab. We’ve also added the new “Me” tab on the right of the navigation bar (see screenshot), where you can customize your account preferences and settings to tell others what music you’re listening to, download high-definition (HD) pictures automatically, and set your chat preferences. In calls, two new icons show you how people are reaching out to you: voice or video.
For iOS users, you now have the ability to swipe through multiple images in your chats, double-tap to view, and zoom in or out. We’ve also made improvements to the layout of chat screens, and added new voice and video icons to make it simpler to initiate those calls.
New Discover Menu Services
We’ve been busily working with a number of great partners to bring lots of exciting new services to our Discover menu this year.
The Paycode cardless cash withdrawal service allows Nigerian BBM users to withdraw funds from an ATM without a bank card, and make payments in participating stories—all using just BBM and their mobiles. This is the result of a partnership with Interswitch. Read more about that here.
The BBM Rewards service gives South African users a neat way to reduce what they pay for their mobile service. By participating in surveys and simply shopping at their favorite retailers, they earn currency to use toward free mobile airtime. Read more here.
Middle Eastern users have been enjoying our first two content channels: Layalina and Arabsturbo. Primarily for women, Layalina offers lifestyle, fashion and celebrity content tailored for Middle Eastern tastes; while Arabsturbo brings adrenaline pumping content to auto enthusiasts, motorsport addicts and speed junkies. We’ll be launching more content channels this year.
Thanks to a new partnership with Vidio.com, we have released live video streaming to BBM users in Indonesia. (See screenshot.) This new service opens up a world of possibilities for content providers to broadcast and chat with Indonesians at home and on the go.
BBM Polls offers another new way for brands to interact with their target audience. Brands can own custom landing pages where they run promotional campaigns, or poll users to gather insights and engage in conversation. We’ll be sharing more about BBM Polls in the coming weeks.
As you can see, our work to make BBM the most useful app on your phone is never done! We’re continuing to execute against our plan to make BBM the center of your mobile ecosystem, adding new features and services all the time, bringing content, commerce and more to your favorite messaging app.
