New BBM Game Center Will Bring Richer Social Networking Experience and Localized Games to BBM’s 60M+ Monthly Active Users in Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia – 29 September, 2016 – Creative Media Works, a stand-alone consumer-focused social networking business operating as BBM, has signed a deal with NEOWIZ GAMES Corp. for its subsidiary, B2Games to develop and run the BBM Game Center. Slated for launch in Q4 2016, the BBM Game Center will enable users to download free-to-play games and compete with their BBM friends across iOS and Android platforms.
BBM is one of the largest mobile messaging applications. Moving beyond BlackBerry devices, the app now has over 100 million installs on Android, iOS, and Windows. Since it was created in August 2005, BBM has evolved from a pure messaging application for communication (text and video) to a social eco-system unifying chat, social, commerce and services including games.
B2Games is a joint venture formed between NEOWIZ GAMES Corp.; Mobirix, a global mobile game company; and Avancera, a marketing and commerce specialist in Southeast Asia, for the purpose of developing and running the BBM Game Center platform.
Development is well under way with significant progress in building the optimized API and SDK. Leveraging its wealth of experience in the mature Korean gaming market, NEOWIZ GAMES Corp. is making serious efforts to localize games to the native Indonesian language, actively engage in game sourcing, and provide in-depth data analysis, localized marketing, and customer service.
“The growth of the Indonesian mobile gaming market is very obvious,” said NEOWIZ GAMES Corp’s CEO Ki-Won Lee. “Our partnership with BBM will enable its Game Center to offer users an international flavor and a wide genre of games, yet localized for the Indonesian market.”
Currently, most of the games available in Indonesia, which are provided by global online gaming providers are not offered in the native Indonesian language.
Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. According to the App Annie 2015 Retrospective report, Indonesia has the most active mobile gamers (30.7 million) in Southeast Asia. Of these active mobile gamers, 49% spend money on games, more than the entire Southeast Asia region, which averages at 45%. Strategy and racing games are the top game genres on which they spend money. Jakpat Mobile Survey also revealed BBM as the undisputed leader in the Indonesian market with 80% of respondents indicating BBM is their most frequently used mobile messaging app.
“BBM continues to be the most-installed and most commonly used messaging application used in Indonesia. Users are always looking to do more on their messaging application as it is the app they use every day, multiple times a day. As an immensely consumer focused business, we are thrilled to be part of this exciting market, working with best-of-breed partners to launch new services in order to meet the growing demands of our users. BBM Game Center, follows our recent new services such as News and Video content, and there will be many more exciting services coming over the next couple of months,” said Matthew Talbot, CEO of Creative Media Works, the company which operates and runs BBM globally.
